What is Be Fit Food?

We have one main goal at Be Fit Food: we want to help Australians to eat themselves better.

Australia’s obesity rates are continuously on the rise and there is little education in place to show the public the effects of added sugar & sodium, high carb & large portioned diets can have not just on our weight, but on our general health & wellbeing.

That’s why our founders, Dr Geoffrey Draper, a bariatric surgeon, and Kate Save, an accredited practising dietitian & exercise physiologist, started Be Fit Food.

Our programs give our customers the food, resources and dietitian support they need to lose weight rapidly while still eating nutrient-rich, real food rather than resorting to shakes, bars or detox teas.

Our recipes are created by our team of dietitians and are designed to bring the body into mild nutritional ketosis, which makes the body burn stored fat rather than carbohydrates and helps our customers to feel fuller for longer, have more energy throughout their day, sleep better and help towards other health benefits such as lowered cholesterol & balanced blood sugar levels.

How is Be Fit Food different to other companies and weight loss programs?

There are a lot of weight loss programs and products out there so we understand how finding the best company for you can be pretty overwhelming!

We are, however, super proud of how we differ from others in the market. We are Australia’s leading real food Very Low-Calorie Diet (VLCD) meal program and was founded by a bariatric surgeon and a clinical dietitian as a scientifically formulated, real food alternative to supplements, shakes and bars.

Our recipes follow a Mediterranean style approach, with low carbs and 4-12 different veggies per meal, which helps bring the body into a mild nutritional state of ketosis for effective fat burning. Our programs are suitable for chronic health disease management such as T2 Diabetes and high cholesterol.

Our customer’s results speak for themselves, not just from the number on their scales, but from a wide range of other health benefits such as improved bowel movements, better sleeping habits, decreased bloating, more energy and improvement in mental health.

What program is right for me?

Before taking on any weight loss program, including our Be Fit Food options, we strongly suggest chatting to your health care provider to make sure you’re making the right choices for you. 

Be Rapid

Our Be Rapid program gives our customers the food, resources and dietitian support they need to lose weight rapidly (average of 2-10kgs in the first two weeks). Our program allows for 800-900 calories per day, which induces mild nutritional ketosis through our low carb, high protein meals.

Be Lean

Our Be Lean programs are all about slower, more gradual weight loss and weight management. Available in flexible five or seven day program options, that allow for between 1000 to 1500 calories per day. These programs are ideal for those who live an active lifestyle or for maintaining weight loss and to educate on carbohydrates and portion control so you can incorporate our healthy eating philosophy into your own cooking and daily lives.

Be Fit Man

Our Be Fit Man program has been designed specifically as a weight loss and health maintenance program for men. Men typically have a 30% higher basal metabolic rate (or “metabolism”) than females, so this program is 30% higher in protein and calories.

How long should I do BFF for?

This is completely up to you! We do recommend doing our Be Rapid program for two weeks to achieve an effective metabolism reset and repeating seasonally for maintenance (around three to four times a year). If you’re after significant weight loss however, we recommend taking on the program until you have reached your goal results and have established your own healthy eating habits that you can implement into your own cooking.

What should I expect from my BFF meals?


We’ll be honest, our meals wont taste as good as what you’re used to. Why? Because we don’t add any artificial flavours, sweeteners and make sure our meals are all low in sodium. We do welcome you to add natural spices you our meals, such as pepper, chilli, nutmeg, curry powder and other herbs to tailor the taste to you without adding any nasties that will affect your end results.

Did you know it takes approximately 24 days for your taste buds to regenerate and adapt to new tastes and flavours? Once you have kicked your (sometimes unknown) addiction to sugar and salt, you will start to really taste and enjoy whole foods the way Mother Nature intended.


One of the key contributors to unwanted weight gain, is that we tend to eat larger portions than what our bodies actually need.

We have scientifically formulated each of our meals to be calorie controlled and to provide the perfect amount of nutrients based on the RDI, however we also strongly encourage you to also add low starch vegetables and salad to your meals, as this helps to show you what your meals should embody once you take our food philosophy into your own cooking.

Why our meals are frozen?

We did a lot of testing when we first started putting together our program and found that freezing our meals was the best way to lock in all the nutrients and deliver the freshest possible meals to our customers. It also helps reduce food wastage from our end, as well as in your home, as you can store our meals for longer periods of time.

What are your opening hours?

Our Customer Service team are contactable by phone between 9am-5.30pm weekdays and 9am-4pm on Saturdays. Outside of these hours we recommend contacting our Customer Service team via support@befitfood.com.au and we endeavour to get back to you within 24 hours.


Our retail store’s open hours are:

Monday to Friday: 9am – 5.30pm

We are closed on public holidays unless otherwise advertised on our social media channels.

Can I exercise while on the program?

We recommend 30 minutes of light to moderate physical activity each day. This can be exercises such as walking, yoga, pilates or a light weights session. Exercise can increase hunger and make the program a little more challenging to adhere to. However, after transitioning into mild nutritional ketosis (after the first few days) you may feel energetic and quite keen to exercise. We have many clients that have the energy to exercise as per their normal routine after the first few days. You could try going for a 30-minute walk each day and build up from there.

It is important to listen to your body. The decrease in calories could make it difficult for you to participate in high intensity activity. As you are in mild nutritional ketosis, the stores of sugar in your body have been used up which is what we normally rely on for high intensity exercise. Instead, you are relying on fat as an energy source. As a result, you may experience lethargy or light-headedness when participating in training such as HIIT (high intensity interval training).

It is also recommended if you are exercising or participating in weight training that you match your snacks to your training. Having a protein snack within 30 minutes of completing exercise will help promote muscle recovery and maintain muscle mass.

Another option is to have split one of your snack allowances to match your training. You may like to have half of a fruit snack prior to exercise to give your body some nature sugar to run off, and then have half of a protein snack afterward for muscle recovery. (1/2 fruit snack + 1/2 protein snack= 1 snack total).

2. Nutrition & Dietary Questions

What is mild nutritional ketosis?

Our Be Rapid program is designed to induce mild nutritional ketosis. This is a state in which our body switches from using sugar (from carbohydrates) as a primary energy source to using our stored body fat. This process produces ketones. Mild nutritional ketosis a state in which the ketone levels in our body are only slightly elevated (0.3-1.5mmol/l), in comparison to other more extreme ketogenic diets that can reach higher level of ketosis. Evidence demonstrates that the effects of mild nutritional ketosis on weight loss are very similar to that of the more extreme levels of ketosis, with less extreme side effects.

How do we induce this state? The limited intake of carbohydrates and low-calorie intake on the Be Rapid program is what allows mild nutritional ketosis to occur. This results in a calorie deficit and promotes effective fat loss. Our meals are also high in protein and moderate in healthy fats, which is another benefit in comparison to typical ketogenic diets that are extremely high in fat and often reduce the amount of ‘fat-burning’ that occurs.

The Be Rapid meal program does not exclude any whole food groups, but we do ensure it fits within the nutritional parameters required for achieving mild nutritional ketosis and rapid weight loss.

What is the nutritional content of your meals?

Our meals are all made from high quality, fresh ingredients including lean beef, skinless chicken breasts and tenderloins, lean lamb fillets, Atlantic salmon and a wide array of seasonal vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds with up to 4-12 varieties in each meal.

We use a range of whole grains in our meals including quinoa, brown rice, whole meal soba and buckwheat noodles as well as high protein, low carb pasta. We also use many different legumes as an extra source of dietary fibre and protein to promote better satiety (fullness) and support digestive health.

Our meals are all calorie controlled and formulated to be high in protein and a source of dietary fibre. Each meal is designed to provide a source of essential vitamins and minerals which may include Iron, Calcium, Folate and B Vitamins just to name a few to assist you in meeting your estimated daily nutrient requirements.

How do I speak to a dietitian?

At Be Fit Food we have a team of Accredited Practising Dietitians and Nutritionists. We encourage all customers to book in for their free consultation with a BFF dietitian prior to commencing any program and while on the program. If you are local to our Mornington retail store (or if you’re ever in the area!) you can book in with a dietitian to have a free body composition scan and consultation. Our dietitians are available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

We encourage customers to book phone consultations or body compositions weekly throughout the duration of their program. Speaking with a dietitian helps to keep you on track and motivated, in addition to sharing information on the numerous other health benefits that go beyond the numbers on the scales which are just as important.

Does BFF cater to different dietary requirements?

We sure do! Our menu offers a range of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. We also have numerous alternative menus for allergens and preference (such as a coriander free menu, low garlic and onion, dairy & lactose free), these can be found in the resources section of our website.

Please note, we currently offer set gluten free and vegetarian menus in our Be Rapid program, however if you have other dietary preferences or requirements, you will need to select a “Create Your Own Menu” program and customise your meals according to your needs.

Is rapid weight loss safe?

Our approach to weight loss is supported by the science behind the CSIRO. Rigorous scientific evidence shows a low-calorie low carbohydrate diet is not only very effective in promoting substantial weight loss and when compared to a traditional high carbohydrate low fat diet, it improves blood glucose control and normalises blood cholesterol levels, which is particularly beneficial for the treatment of insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

Our Be Rapid meal program is made from high quality, wholesome and fresh ingredients including a wide array of seasonal vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds. The meals also contain healthy sources of protein including lean beef, skinless chicken breasts and tenderloins, lean lamb fillets and Atlantic salmon. Each meal contains 4-12 different vegetables, making them a good source of fibre, nourishing the gut microbiome. We uses a wide range of whole grains in our meals including quinoa, brown rice, wholemeal soba and buckwheat noodles, as well as high protein, low carbohydrate pasta. This is different to most other rapid weight loss programs that provide synthetic meal replacement shakes and bars.

Is rapid weight loss maintainable?

When you’ve worked hard to lose weight quickly, you’re obviously going to want to maintain your results! Be rest assured that weight loss from a rapid weight loss program is maintainable when followed by weight maintenance does not lead to gaining back more weight afterwards. It is important when weight loss is achieved however, that an active follow up weight maintenance program is adhered to that supports behavioural therapy, nutritional education and exercise. People who lose weight rapidly compared to gradual weight loss are not more susceptible to weight regain.

What allowed extras can I have?

Our Allowed Extras List is our list of BFF dietitian approved low starch, low carb options that you can use to put into a side salad, side vegetables, small snack between meals, plus some extra protein ideas for those who are really active or have higher than usual protein requirements.

These additional side salads/vegetables will not inhibit weight loss due to their low calorie, carb and high fibre properties and by including one serve of ½-1 cup with each meal, it will help to ensure that you feel satisfied, especially when you commence the program. You may also find that it helps your bowels by increasing the total volume of food you consume on Be Rapid but we also strongly advise to drink plenty of water.

Can I drink alcohol while on the program?

Not only does alcohol contain additional calories, carbs and sugar, it has an immediate effect on the liver, and pauses your ability to burn other nutrient therefore making you more likely to store your next meal as fat in your body.

But of course, we’re human, and understand that sometimes these things are unavoidable. If you’re going to drink alcohol, we recommend sticking to a spirit & soda water mix or get adventurous and try your preferred spirit with kombucha (G&K is the new G&T!).

Is coffee or tea allowed on the program?

You can go nuts on the herbal tea, black tea and black coffee!

If you’re sticking to the Be Rapid program strictly, additional milk is counted as a snack (adding an extra ~100 calories). If you can’t go without your latte, you may choose to include this as your second snack while on the program.

Can I do BFF if I’m breastfeeding?

While you are breastfeeding your nutritional needs are increased, as your body ensures it can supply sufficient nutrients to your growing bub. We would not recommend rapid weight loss in the early stages of breastfeeding to ensure that your milk supply remains constant, however after the first few months, if your baby is not fully reliant on breastmilk, you may be able to use the Be Rapid program if you find it does not compromise your milk supply. How do I create an account?

  4. Enter your address details
  5. Enter your personal details, and don’t forget to mention a fellow BFF if they have referred you and we’ll give them a $10 credit as a thanks!
  6. Enter your credit card details – please note: we do not save these. All data is encrypted.

How do I place an order?

  6. Select “SAVE & CHECK OUT” when customisation is complete

Can I change my order?

You’re welcome to make changes to your order before your area cut off time, simply log in to your online account, head to the ‘upcoming deliveries’ tab and edit your next order with your changes. Alternatively, you can give our friendly customer service team a call on 1300 263 257 and they will be able to update your order for you.

How do I cancel my order?

If you wish to cancel your order, we ask that you please let us know before your area cut off time (see above), otherwise your order would have already been made and onboard for delivery.

To cancel your order please call our Customer Service team on 1300 263 257 during business hours.

What are the delivery fees?

We offer free delivery for all VIC, NSW, SA & ACT orders that are over $179. Any orders under $179 in those states will be charged a $20 delivery fee.
At this stage due to freight costs, all QLD orders over $250 will be charged a $10 delivery fee and any order under $250 will be charged $20.
For WA orders, all orders $180 or below will be charged a $30 delivery fee, all orders between $181-$300 will be charged a $20 delivery fee, and all orders $300 and above will get free delivery.

How do I enter a coupon?

Once you have added your order to your delivery, you will see a field with ‘enter discount’ under your items. Add your coupon (please note our coupons are case sensitive) and hit ‘APPLY’. Your discount amount should be taken off your order total.

Will I receive a confirmation email?

You should receive confirmation shortly after your order has been placed. This will include details of your delivery date and what you have ordered, make sure you have a good read to ensure nothing is missing or incorrect so we can get it fixed before cut-off times.

Where can I Click & Collect?

We currently offer four pick up locations for Click & Collect: our Mornington store, Mordialloc Store, Dandenong Warehouse and Brunswick Click & Collect location.

Can I pick up from your retail stores?

Can I shop in store instead of ordering online?

Our retail staff would love to have you head in store and help select the best program for you. Just head in store during our opening hours and allow roughly 20 minutes to choose and chat to our staff.

What time will my order arrive?

Delivery times vary between different areas. You will receive a text message the day before your delivery with an estimated delivery time, however, please note that at times factors that are outside of our drivers control such as weather and traffic can delay the delivery time.

You will also receive a confirmation text once your delivery has been made, with a photo with proof of delivery if you were unable to sign.

What driver notes can I give?

While our drivers always try to adhere to your delivery notes, their safety comes first.

If you’re asking our drivers to drop off your delivery to a specific area, please make sure the area is well lit, easily accessible, unobstructed and that no unrestrained animals are present.

Unfortunately, we’ve had past incidents of our drivers being bitten by customer’s dogs, therefore if there is an unrestrained dog on the premises the driver will not access the property.

Can I track my delivery?

We’ll provide you with a tracking link sent via SMS the night before your delivery, along with an estimated time of arrival of your order. Once delivered, our driver will send you another SMS with confirmation and a link to a photo of proof of delivery if you were unable to sign. How do you make sure my order stays frozen during transit?

We use a frozen supply chain to make sure your meals are frozen from our kitchen to your doorstep.

How long will my delivery stay frozen for unattended?

We use Sancell Thermal Bags in all our deliveries. This ensures your delivery remains frozen for up to 12 hours once delivered, even in extreme 40-degree temperatures.

Missing & faulty items

We have several procedures in place from the kitchen, packing and delivery to minimise the risk of any missing items or damage along the way. If however this has happened, please get in please email support@befitfood.com.au or call us on 1300263257 so we can get this resolved for your as soon as possible.

Will I receive a yellow cooler bag?

We send out your first order with us in a yellow Be Fit Food cooler bag as a little “thank you!” gift for joining the BFF family.

What do I do with my yellow cooler bag?

Unfortunately, our courier company are unable to collect yellow cooler bags, cardboard boxes or your Sancell thermal bags. We encourage you to keep your Yellow Bags for supermarket shopping and personal use.

What happens if my delivery goes missing once delivered?

We’re fully responsible for ensuring that your BFF order is safely transported and delivered, and we will provide proof of delivery for your order via a photo link sent via SMS. Once delivered however, the responsibility for your order is transferred to you. We aim to provide the best possible customer service and support for any issue related to your delivery, and our amazing team are available via support@befitfood.com.au or 1300263257.

5. Payments & Pricing

When will I be charged for my order?

We will process your order the morning on your delivery day’s cut off, for example if you’re located in Regional NSW and need to order by 11.30am on Monday for a Saturday delivery, then your order will be processed the Monday morning.

Do you store my credit cards details?

We do not record your credit card details on our website. All your details go through Stripe, our payment processing provider, who are an international secured payment platform.

Refunds & store credits

Without limiting your rights under Australian consumer law:

  1. If there is a major fault or issue with our product, you are entitled to a refund or replacement at your discretion; and
  2. if the problem is minor, you are entitled to a replacement or store credit.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a refund for change of mind after we have processed your payment.

If you have been issued a store credit, this will automatically come off your next order.

What do I do if I’ve been charged incorrectly?

If you have been charged incorrectly, please get in touch with us between Monday to Friday 9am-6pm via support@befitfood.com.au or 1300263257 and we will get this resolved as soon as possible for you.

Why have I seen different pricing than what is on your website?

We currently have some Information Sheets in circulation, where the pricing may not be 100% accurate. We are trying to remove these to avoid confusion, but please ask our friendly staff in store, our customer service team or view the website for all up to date pricing.

6. Heating & Storage

How long will my BFF meals last?

All meals except for our Granola, Porridge & Molives are snap frozen after cooking and kept frozen for delivery. If kept frozen, your meals will have a shelf life of 12 months from production date. The label on each meal will let you know how long your meals will last once defrosted.

How should I store my meals?

We recommend keeping your BFF meals frozen and popping them into the fridge for defrosting the night before consumption. The label on each meal will let you know how long your meals will last once defrosted.

How do I heat my meals?

Your meal should have recommended cooking instructions on the label for you to follow, however there are alternative ways to enjoy our meals:


You may prefer to cook your defrosted eggs as a traditional omelette on the stovetop until lightly golden on both sides.


Once defrosted, you can heat up your soup on low heat until heated in a saucepan on your stovetop.


Remove the meal from the container and place in a tray suitable for the oven, cover with aluminium foil and place on a suitable oven proof tray whilst cooking slowly on a low temperature until heated through.


Place your defrosted meal in a pot and cook on low until warmed through.

Can I freeze a meal once defrosted?

If you have defrosted one of your meals and kept it refrigerated, you can re-freeze your meal. Just ensure that once defrosted again, you cook until piping hot and consume immediately.

Is your packaging recyclable?

All our meal packaging is recyclable, we also have quite a few customers who like to use their containers for future portion control.

Water content in BFF meals

In many traditional frozen or pre-prepared meals, salt or thickeners are added for preserving or for flavour, which also helps to bind fluid. Be Fit Food main meals are low in sodium (less than 120mg/100g) and contain no added thickeners. As a result, once you heat the meals in the microwave, the vegetables release fluid. You can simply drain this fluid before consuming your meal and then place the meal into a bowl.

There are 4-12 varieties vegetables in each of our meals. Vegetables are over 95% water, so given the quantity of vegetables we have in our meals there is going to be some water content in the cooking process. We also try to slightly undercook the vegetables. This allows for the vegetables to then not become overcooked when the consumer heats them in the microwave, thereby losing even more water.

At Be Fit Food we prepare meals from farm fresh ingredients daily and then freeze them to preserve the DNA of the food rather than relying on gassing methods to keep the food ‘’fresh’’. We also freeze our meals for food safety. We consider that delivering food frozen (approximately -17 degrees Celsius) to be much safer for our customers, particularly in regards to temperature control for delivery to multiple states across Australia.
